Rangers Head Coach

Kenny Miller returns for his second season as head coach of the Marquette Rangers and his fifth as a head coach in the NAHL. The Toledo, Ohio native guided the Rangers to a record of 26-24-8 the record marks the first time in the short history of the Rangers that the club has finished above .500.

During the 2008 - 09 season Miller helped move seven Rangers to the college ranks, five players will compete at the DI level while two will play at DIII schools.

Miller, who started with the Alpena IceDiggers organization, spent three years in the dual role as general manager/head coach. During Miller's second season in Alpena he helped lead his club to a record of 37-20-5, earning the team's first NAHL postseason birth.

For his successes, the 35 year old was named NAHL's General Manager of the Year Award following the 2006 - 07 season. Twelve players from that team moved on to college programs, including six to division I schools.

The bench boss also spent time in Toledo as an assistant coach prior to the IceDiggers moving to Alpena in 2005 - 06. Miller is the third coach in Rangers history.

Kenny and his wife Stephanie have been married for 9 years and have one daughter Kadyn (7). They reside in Marquette year round.

Assistants

Rangers Assistant Coach

Dan L'Esperance will enter his second season as assistant coach of the Marquette Rangers. Dan has been with the Rangers organization since the 2007 - 08 season in some capacity.  L'Esperance assists Coach Miller in the day to day operations of the Rangers. The 23 year old is responsible with all video sessions and assisting with on-ice practices.

The Brighton, Michigan native played high school hockey at Brighton before moving on to Northern Michigan University to further his education.

Rangers Equipment Manager

Leo Bodette begins his first season as the Marquette Rangers equipment manager, prior to joining the Rangers he and his family spent the past 15 years living in the Detroit area.

While in Detroit Leo worked for the IUOE Local 324 where he served as recording corresponding secretary.

Leo's duties include taking care of all player equipment needs such as sharpening skates, equipment repair as well as ordering all equipment needed for the players.

Leo and his wife Mary Beth and their son Bobby 18 (Right wing for the Marquette Rangers) reside in Marquette year round. The couple also have three grown children, Jason (29), Michael (27) and Stephanie (22). The Bodette family is originally from Garden MI.

In his spare time Leo enjoys hunting, golfing and spending time with his grandkids.

Rangers Athletic Trainer

Ryan Lowery ATC, CSCS, a 26-year old Green Bay native is in his second season as head athletic trainer for the Rangers.  He graduated in May of 2007 from NMU with his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training.  He is currently finishing his master's degree in exercise science at NMU.  As the athletic trainer, Ryan specializes in prevention and care of athletic injuries, working to keep the Rangers healthy and in the game.

Ryan has worked at Marquette General Sports Medicine for two years and works primarily out of their Physical Therapy clinic, but also assists other athletic trainers at MGH as needed.  This includes coverage at other athletic events and clinics.

Ryan's interests include music, playing the guitar, thai boxing, mountain biking and scuba diving.  He and his wife Dori currently live in Marquette with their newborn daughter Emma. 

Strength and Conditioning Coach

Doug Latvala is a 31 year old Escanaba Native who has been residing in Marquette since 2005.  He is in his first season as the Rangers Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and is also the Head Trainer at Ringside Fitness.  Doug attained is Bachelor of Science (Physical Education) from Western Michigan University in 2001.  He is currently in his second year as a masters student and Northern Michigan University where he is studying Training Development and Performance Enhancement.

His duties include planning and implementing player workouts, nutrition design, injury rehab, and increasing player recovery time post games.  Though Doug never played Junior A Hockey he was an All State selection his senior year of high school and has a deep knowledge of the game.  That knowledge allows him to design the most effective sport specific/functional off ice training sessions to keep the Rangers performing at their very best.
